| Our Spring trial was Saturday May 2nd, 2009 The Judge was Hartmut Beckmann who brought along his delightful and lovely wife Faye. We all enjoyed their company and Hartmut was as usual a very fair and consistant judge and he took the time to explain things to the new handlers which is always very much appreciated! |
| We met at the hotel at 5 am on Saturday and caravaned to the tracking field. A few had some problems with tracking regardless of the good tracking conditions. Two of the three VPG I's; Tricia Gray with "R-Athena" and Robert Barlow with "Marala" unfortunately didn't get passing scores but Gene and "Yasso" earned 83 points and earned their new TR 1 title. The other VPG I; Lily Westerhoff and her dog "Roxie Vom Aegis" from Yellow Stone River Dog Club in Montana earned a most impressive 98 points! Lily's mom Rosellen and Roxie's brother "Rohan" (I know, this can get confusing some times!) also scored a enviable score of 97 in tracking and were on their way to a new VPG II title. Glen and "Yoda" going for the VPG III showed an almost perfect track as well scoring 98 points and Byron and "Aaron" scored a great score of 96 also on their way to VPG III. The weather was destined not to cooperate as the forecast called for rain all day but we stayed pretty dry up to the last track. As Edie Schoepp and "Fender" approached the judge to report in for the FH, the rain began to come down, slow at first but relentless. "Fender" wasn't sure he wanted to track in the rain and unfortunately didn't earn a passing score, but he did finish the track. The rain didn't stop until we were ready for protection! We took Hartmut and Faye to breakfast hoping that the rain would quit. It slowed down ever so slightly but we had no choice but to start the obedience in the rain. Our very good friend Jim Cook from Colorado - Summit Schutzhund Club trialed his GSD "Lasso" for a BH and what a beautiful team! They passed the BH with flying colors as did our own Jerry Barth with "Wut" his Belgian Malinois. For those of you who don't know Jerry, this was his first time titling a dog but you would never have known it - they looked fantastic out there for their first time! The rain didn't seem to bother any of the dogs really, not nearly as much as it did the handlers and spectators (as usual right?) The obedience for the VPG dogs got off to a bit of a rocky start. Tricia and Robert who had been working tirelessly to get their dogs ready for this both did a great job on the field but their dogs had other ideas, unfortunately. Neither of them passed the obedience but Tricia and R-Athena went on to pass the protection phase with an 88 (we are all very proud of you Tricia!). You can bet both of them will be on the trial field at the next trial - more determined than ever! Our out-of-town friends from Montana both did absolutely beautiful obedience with their dogs. Their scores, as you see below reflect this - WOW - what beautiful teams they both were! As they approached the field for protection, everyone was not surprised as they both delivered protection routines in the 90's! I can't say enough about how beautiful these two performed with their dogs out there! On to the VPG III's - Glen and "Yoda" - always a great team - performed wonderfully! Glen injured his hand just prior to the trial and had little time to prepare, but you wouldn't know it by watching! They did a great job both in obedience and protection. Byron and "Aaron" had some minor difficulties with the obedience... He passed and went on to protection where he shines! This was the first time Byron had trialed Aaron since he was 18 months old or so and as many of you know, Aaron has spent the last several years training/trialing with Les Flores. Byron only had him for approximately 3-4 weeks before this trial - so great job Byron and "Aaron"! All in all the trail went very well in spite of the rain! At least the temperature wasn't so low we all froze to death! We were all pretty water logged but otherwise none the worse for wear! On to the next trial!!! Glen and "Yoda", Byron and "Aaron" and Cheryl and "Tiger" will be headed to the DVG America National Championships in June! |
